Wine Pairing Notes…

Domaine Michel Chavet & Fils Saint-Veran 2020, France

This wine comes from the chalky-clay soils of the plots on well-exposed hillsides. You will be delighted by its bright, brilliant, yellow colour. The bouquet is redolent of pears and white peaches, with a hint of acacia - and even of grapefruit. In the mouth, it is subtly balanced, being round and lively, with a fresh minerality. To be enjoyed with shellfish, fish, white meats or goat's cheese. As this wine is only very lightly filtered, it may contain a slight deposit, which in no way affects the flavour or the quality.

Painted Wolf 'The Den' Chenin Blanc 2021, South Africa

Inspired by the teamwork, energy and resourcefulness of the remarkable painted wolf, also known as the African wild dog. The den is at the heart of the pack, a place where painted wolves relax and bond. Abundant fresh citrus and tropical fruit aromas, complimented by hints of vanilla and wet stone. A beautifully balanced wine which just leaps out of the glass.

Amen Break ‘Zebra Vineyard’ Pinot Noir 2018, Central Otago, NZ

The Amen Break wines, setup by brothers Matt and Steve Harrop, have been making waves in the winemaking world. This is their cracking Pinot – big in weight, but perfumed, deep and full of concentrated dark fruits. With Matt now taking the helms at uber-boutique, and much loved Curly Flat, you can start to see the kind of winemaking pedigree on show.

Lafage Maury 2019, Languedoc Rousillon, France

A fortified red wine made with Grenache Noir, a great alternative to Port; slightly fruitier and not quite as powerful. Packed with up front jammy black fruits with hints of Christmas spices, this is luscious and an ideal match to dark chocolate or matured cheeses.
