Steven Smith of The Freemasons at Wiswell is set to welcome Simon Shaw from the multi-award-winning El Gato Negro in Manchester on Thursday, 26th July, for one night only.

El Gato Negro was born from Simon Shaw’s fascination with, and love of, Spanish food and wine. The acclaimed restaurant, launched in Ripponden and now located at the heart of historic King Street, Manchester, has been awarded countless accolades over the years. Hardens hailed El Gato Negro the ‘best tapas in the North,’ with The Times ranking it the number one tapas bar in the country.

In 2017, El Gato Negro was the only Manchester restaurant to be awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand, an honour upheld in 2018. The restaurant was also listed in the National Restaurant Awards Top 100 in the UK.

Simon will be bringing modern Spanish tapas to Wiswell for the evening, in collaboration with Steve Smith who will create some British tapas to craft a wonderfully varied and relaxed menu.

Steve Smith said; “Our chef collaborations are always sell-out events, with our customers keen to come and experience a new style of cooking at The Freemasons. I’ve always been a big fan of Simon and El Gato Negro and I’m really looking forward to working with him on a tapas menu which is really bringing something different to the pub this summer.”

We will also be joined by Spanish Guitarist, Scott Robertson, who will be bringing the sounds of Spain to The Freemasons at Wiswell, with a fusion of Spanish, Classical and Popular music, played beautifully on the Spanish Guitar.
