On trial at the Sheriff's home...
Now, I am as law abiding a citizen as the next man, so how did I find myself on trial the home of the High Sheriff of Lancashire this week in front of a High Court Judge?
Don’t worry, there’s no malicious plot or anything like that – quite the opposite, in fact. We donated a charity prize for an event at Gibbon Bridge organised by Live Ribble Valley, for me to cook a dinner for eight at someone’s home. The winning bidder was Dennis Mendoros, managing director of aviation company, Euravia, who also happens to be the High Sheriff. I won’t disclose the winning sum but the charity must have been chuffed.
The dinner was packed with local dignitaries, including a High Court Judge, who was obviously used to eating out at some of London’s finest restaurants, so it was nice when she said my venison dish was the best she had ever had. I also included some other Freemasons favourites, such as the Tandoori Scallop and Lemon Meringue Pie, and a plate of artisan English and Irish cheeses.
Apparently the High Sheriff is the representative of the monarch within the county. So perhaps my next venue might be at the end of Pall Mall! Seriously though, the evening went down so well that we are thinking of including a cook-at-home package as part of an exciting new development for Freemasons for 2011. Watch this space…!
