Freemasons voted amongst elite gastropubs

10 February 2012

Freemasons at Wiswell, Lancashire, has been voted in the top 50 gastropubs in the UK by food industry experts.

Chef-patron Steven Smith described the listing in the Budweiser Budvar Top 50 Gastropubs 2011 awards, run by the Morning Advertiser newspaper, as 'rewarding industry recognition'.

Freemasons was listed in 42nd place - amongst just eight entries from the North of England.

An industry poll of hundreds of food writers, celebrity and top hospitality industry chefs, pub guide editors, industry chiefs and food operators voted for their favourite establishments in a rigorous judging process.

Steven said: “The fact that this was decided by industry experts makes it a very rewarding achievement for all our team. This firmly cements our place on the culinary map and hopefully the developments we are introducing will help us climb further up the list next year."

The Hand and Flowers in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, run by Tom Kerridge, took top spot.
