Freemason's at Wiswell awarded 2 AA Rosettes

25 June 2012

Freemasons at Wiswell, led by Chef Patron Steven Smith, has been awarded 2 Rosettes in its first entry in the AA Guide.  As predicted by early critics, awards, nominations and accolades have been quick to arrive for Freemasons’ team, following their phenomenal success and technical brilliance in the kitchen.  Steve is keen to see the AA Guide listing rise as quickly as Freemasons’ reputation has done and hopes that it will do so in no time at all.

Opened in 2009, Steve and his team have attracted attention from diners and chefs across the UK and are fast gaining a reputation as one of the best gastro pubs in the country.

The team has already retained the prestigious Michelin Bib Gourmand for the second year running and were one of only twenty-six new entrants added in the 2011 Michelin Guide to Great Britain and Ireland.  This came hot on the heels of the Freemasons’ 15th place in the Old Speckled Hen’s top 50 gastro pubs and Steven’s ‘Best Newcomer’ award in the Publican Awards for his fresh and creative approach in the kitchen.

It is Freemasons’ use of seasonal produce, sourced from as locally as the nearest ‘Spring Woods’ and as far afield as Turkey, that constitutes Steve’s ‘nature to plate’ menus.  By applying modern kitchen techniques and a whole lot of imagination to traditional British pub classics, the team provides diners with an exceptional gastronomic experience, in a relaxed pub setting.  This is something it is intent on continuing to do.  We can all be sure their efforts will not fail to gain further acclaim across the UK.

Steve comments: “Our mission is to create top class food without the stuffiness of some top restaurant experiences.  Freemasons at Wiswell is a pub and our food reflects our heritage, our setting and also our ambition.’
